Belleville, ON, Oct. 30, 2023 – As Loyalist College accelerates toward its vision of becoming Ontario’s Destination College, having a diverse and experienced Board of Governors is critical to delivering on its strategic priorities.

On Sept. 1, Jennifer May-Anderson officially began her term as the new Chair of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, succeeding Pam Jolliffe, who had served as Chair since 2020. Chair May-Anderson is a graduate of the Loyalist College Radio Broadcasting program and has served on the Board of Governors since 2018. At the Oct. 26 Board meeting, Chair May-Anderson and President Kirkpatrick welcomed new Board members Murray Angus, Fazeen Nazeer, Melanie Paradis, and Julie Sullivan.

It is an exciting time at Loyalist as the college undergoes a process of renewal and revitalization. An engaged and supportive Board of Governors, which is representative of the communities Loyalist serves, will be critical in achieving the college’s mission and vision.

Murray Angus is the Director of Finance at the Seniors Association Kingston Region, where he brings his strong financial and administrative management experience to advance the Seniors Association’s mission. Prior roles in the not-for-profit sector included Finance Director for Children’s Mental Health Services in Belleville. Mr. Angus also served as the European Finance Director and the North American Finance Director for a major player in the auto parts industry. Since becoming a Chartered Accountant, he has taken on progressively more responsible roles in finance departments of companies across various industries. In addition to finance, Mr. Angus has managed procurement, HR, and IT functions in complex environments in the domestic and international arenas. Mr. Angus, as well as a CPA, CA, is an Accredited Director and a member of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada and The Institute of Corporate Directors. His participation on boards includes Elexicon Group Inc., Belleville Police Services, College of Opticians of Ontario, and the Belleville Chamber of Commerce.

Fazeen Nazeer is a third-year student in the Environmental Technology program at Loyalist College and a native of Kochi, Kerala, India. Beyond academics, Mr. Nazeer is a passionate soccer player who has competed at school and club levels. His dedication to sports reflects his commitment to teamwork, discipline, and excellence. Growing up, Mr. Nazeer developed a keen interest in exploring different cultures and landscapes. He embodies the curiosity and determination that characterizes the Loyalist College community. As a student at Loyalist, Mr. Nazeer is shaping his future and contributing to the college’s vibrant tapestry as a Loyalist Life Ambassador. He joins the Loyalist College Board of Governors as the student representative.

Melanie Paradis is the President of Texture Communications, a boutique communications consultancy that supports Canada’s leading CEOs with thought leadership writing. Her work has been published in Canada’s most-read newspapers and heard on airwaves and streaming services nationwide for more than 15 years. Ms. Paradis has worked with executives across Canada and politicians at Queen’s Park and on Parliament Hill during high-stakes crises and moments of transformation. Before forming Texture Communications, she served in senior communications roles at leading national public affairs and government relations firms, including NATIONAL Public Relations, Earnscliffe Strategy Group, and McMillan Vantage; Vale, one of the world’s largest mining companies; and the Métis Nation of Ontario. Ms. Paradis has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Science in Rural Planning from the University of Guelph.

Julie Sullivan is a Senior Learning Technology Facilitator and part-time faculty member at Loyalist College. Her peers recently elected her as an Internal Governor and Support Staff Representative. Ms. Sullivan began her career at Loyalist in 2017 as a Distance Education Development Analyst. She is committed to internal talent development and building relationships with community partners to develop new and innovative ways to meet regional learning and training needs. She has served on several non-profit boards and committees, including the Loyalist College Council, the Napanee and District Chamber of Commerce Board, the TransCanada Community Liaison Committee and the Career Education Council – Guelph/Wellington Board. Ms. Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration – Organization Major through Athabasca University, is a nationally accredited Certified Training & Development Professional, and holds a Fellowship, Certified Insurance Professional designation.
