Loyalist College advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The 17 goals, known as SDG2030, were developed in 2015 by global leaders as a blueprint towards a sustainable planet by 2030.
Through partnership with Rillea Technologies, a local tech company, and Rillea’s digital platform, SDS RiskAssist™, Loyalist College has achieved the following milestones in responsible chemicals management:
– Responsibly eliminated almost one-third of their chemicals (281) from site thus reducing the associated risk of fire, injury, illness and environmental damage.
– Made the remaining chemical hazard information easily accessible and searchable for all Loyalist staff and students, through the SDS RiskAssist™ platform.
– Developed more relevant WHMIS training, which can be shared with all staff and students, while reducing training costs and time.
– Established a living and sustainable chemicals management system that can be built across changes of personnel, chemicals, and regulations.
These achievements support UN Sustainable Development Goals 3, 6, and 12.
In recognition of the College’s work, Rillea Technologies founders Lisa and Rob Hallsworth presented Loyalist College President Ann Marie Vaughan and Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator Lisa Lynn with UN Sustainable Development Goal Pins.
“We are passionate about responsible chemicals management and, like the World Health Organization, believe it to be central to sustaining healthy communities and indeed our planet. It is wonderful to work with community leaders like Loyalist College who feel the same and are actually on track to meet the 2020 goal of achieving sound management of chemicals!” said Lisa Hallsworth.
