The Student Government President represents the student body, serves as the official spokesperson, and implements the strategic vision. Responsibilities include overseeing the Student Government Constitution, coordinating board duties, liaising with the Loyalist College President & CEO, approving financial transactions and ensuring student representation on councils and committees.

The Student Vice-President, Academic maintains communication with Class Leaders, addresses student concerns, and ensures feedback is discussed with School Deans. They act as a liaison between students and the Senior Vice-President, Academic, and promote Student Government and College services.

The Student Vice-President, Student Life works with the Student Experience and Engagement Team to manage and support campus clubs. This includes overseeing club policies, supporting Club Leaders, and ensuring active engagement. They also play a key role in enhancing student life through involvement in residence, athletics, campus recreation, and other departments. This position focuses on creating a positive and memorable student experience.

The Student Vice President, Marketing and Communications collaborates with the Student Life Marketing Officer to coordinate promotions and maintain the Student Government’s social media presence. They serve as Board Secretary, managing meeting minutes and ensuring their distribution and posting on the Loyalist Life website. Additionally, they co-lead print communication strategies with the Loyalist College Marketing and Communications team.

The Student Vice-President, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) ensures that Student Government processes and decisions prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion. Responsibilities include creating awareness on campus, fostering an inclusive culture among Student Government members, and actively supporting student belonging. The role involves serving as a liaison to the Executive Director, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, representing Student Government on the Loyalist College EDI Committee, and addressing the needs of International Students, Country Leaders, students with disabilities, and other groups around the College.

The Student Governor represents the student body on the Loyalist College Board of Governors, contributing to strategic and policy decisions. Responsibilities include attending board meetings and retreats, voicing student interests, and discussing agenda items like finance. While Board members are volunteers, the Student Governor may receive compensation for their role in Student Government.

The Indigenous Leader shall identify as First Nation, Inuit, Metis, or have Indigenous ancestry. The Director, Indigenous services will appoint an Indigenous Student Council member as the Student Government’s Indigenous Leader. The Indigenous Leader serves as the primary liaison between Student Government and Indigenous Students. Duties of the Indigenous Leader include, but are limited to engaging with and providing advocacy for the needs of Indigenous students, bringing Indigenous students’ perspective and knowledge to the Board, creating opportunities for Indigenous cultural awareness on campus, informing Indigenous students about Student Government and college services as well as campus activities to encourage student engagement, participating on the Indigenous Student Council and bringing forward feedback to the Board and vice-versa, as well as other duties determined by the Board and by Indigenous Services.

The Student Vice-President, Port Hope is responsible for connecting the Port Hope campus to the main campus in Belleville. Responsibilities include representing the students of Port Hope, attending board meetings (virtually or in-person), actively engaging with the students of the Port Hope campus to determine their needs, and advocating on their behalf. Duties also include planning and running interactive events aimed at engaging students.

Elections

Elections for positions are held in the Winter Semester, with additional elections in the Fall for any vacancies. No prior experience is needed!

Class leaders are organized by the Student Government team to support their initiatives and help improve the learning experience at Loyalist. As a Class Leader you will present your class, gather feedback from fellow classmates and share that information to Student Government and school deans.
