Land Affirmation
Loyalist College is built upon the lands governed by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement. We affirm and thank the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabeg, and Huron-Wendat nations for their continued caretaking of the land. We offer respect to Indigenous people from all nations who call this area home. We honour elders and traditional knowledge keepers, past, present, and future.

4 Seasons of Reconciliation Education program for employees
As a leader in advancing the Calls to Action from Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Loyalist launched the 4 Seasons of Reconciliation education program for all employees. With this mandatory training, we strive to help our college community practise intentional inclusion in all we do – on and off campus.
Developed by Reconciliation Education in collaboration with the First Nations University of Canada, this program provides foundational knowledge on Truth and Reconciliation and the renewed relationship between Canada and Indigenous peoples. Staff and faculty are encouraged to embrace these teachings as an opportunity to become an active participant in advancing Truth and Reconciliation and creating meaningful change in our community.

We are available to visit your class, both on campus or off-site at high schools, territorial vocational centres and colleges within Southern Ontario.
For current students, we can provide information on Indigenous-related issues; for future students we can share an overview of Loyalist, including our programs and services.

Guidelines for Acknowledging Territory Protocols and Working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Community Members
The purpose of this document is to assist Loyalist College students and employees through the process of respectfully and ethically inviting, interacting, and collaborating with Indigenous Peoples and communities. These guidelines and protocols may also aid in the development of policies and procedures concerning teaching, research, employment, and strategies for outreach and engagement with Indigenous communities.
