Belleville, Ontario, January 19, 2021 – Loyalist College’s new three-year Massage Therapy Ontario college advanced diploma program, offered through the College’s Belleville campus, is now accepting applications for September 2021.

“In addition to the direct dangers of COVID-19, individual and community health is suffering from physical symptoms associated with stress and changed work habits,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “Our new Massage Therapy program responds to the surge in physical and mental health requirements, which are exacerbating the current shortage of massage therapists. As Loyalist College expands its health and wellness programming and applied research projects, we will continue to support our region through new innovative learning spaces and career-ready graduates who are committed to community care.”

On Tuesday, January 26 at 10 am, the College will host a Massage Therapy webinar for prospective students to learn about the program from faculty members, and ask questions. Those who register for the session, attend and apply to Loyalist College for September 2021 are eligible for a free application voucher ($95 value).

The Massage Therapy program will facilitate the skills and knowledge graduates require to develop, implement and evaluate safe and effective massage treatment plans for a range of clients. A combination of on-campus and clinical placements under the supervision of registered massage therapists will enable students to learn what is required to conduct a massage therapy practice within a legal, professional and ethical framework. They will gain experience developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of a plan of care according to a client’s condition and treatment goals, and acquire strategies for developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships to optimize clients’ health and wellness. Students will explore business principles relevant to massage therapy practice, and learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively with clients, colleagues and as a member of an interprofessional team.

Graduates of Loyalist College’s Massage Therapy program will be prepared for a rewarding career in a range of health and wellness industries, including private practice, chiropractic offices, long-term care facilities and multidisciplinary health care organizations, among others. In order to practice as a massage therapist in Ontario, graduates will be required to register with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). The registration process requires successful completion of professional certification examinations.
