Loyalist College students in India to start Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Environmental programs from new satellite campuses
Belleville, Ontario, July 28, 2020 – In collaboration with North American Business (NAB) College, Loyalist College has established campuses in Chandigarh, Punjab and Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, from which first-year students can start the hands-on in-person requirements of their Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering Technician/Technology, or Environmental Technician/Technology diploma programs this September.
The Government of Canada is allowing students outside Canada who have a study permit, or have been approved or applied for a study permit for a program starting this Fall, but who cannot travel to Canada at this time due to travel restrictions, to remain eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). The PGWPP allows students who have graduated from eligible Canadian designated learning institutions, like Loyalist College, to obtain an open work permit to gain Canadian work experience, which helps graduates qualify for permanent residence in Canada. Students in this situation may begin classes while outside Canada, and complete up to 50 percent of their program, if they cannot travel to Canada sooner. Time spent studying online will not be deducted from the length of the PGWPP until December 31, 2020.
“With many students unable to travel to Canada from India because of COVID-19 related border restrictions, Loyalist College is going to them instead,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “Loyalist is renowned as a caring institution – we take care of our students and will continue to provide the highest quality, most effective learning experiences until it is safe for them to enter Canada. We are pleased to partner with NAB College, which understands the needs of Indian students, to ensure we provide the best education while protecting students’ health and wellbeing.”
Small class sizes will allow NAB instructors to provide students with personalized attention to learn Loyalist College’s curriculum, developed within the Ontario College Quality Assurance Framework. The goal is to prepare students to thoroughly understand and experience course content so that they can seamlessly integrate into their in-person classes in Canada when it is safe to do so. In India, the satellite campus facilities will include state-of-the-art biosciences labs, as well as smart classrooms from which students will have the option to work on the digital delivery components of their programs with support from NAB instructors. In extending hands-on teaching instruction for Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Environmental students in India, Loyalist College also aims to strengthen supports and resources for its faculty members teaching the programs in Canada.
“India is one of the biggest markets for international students and because of COVID-19, we are finding more creative ways to reach students,” said Dr. Anurag Sinha, NAB College President and CEO. “At NAB College, you are more than a number. The investment we make in our students offers returns to our economy, and our communities in Canada and abroad. That is why we treat students and their education with the professionalism and care they deserve, because investment in students is an investment in our future.”
