As a graduate of Loyalist’s full-time Wireless Information Networking post-graduate program, you may be eligible to advance your profession through the following certification pathways: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Wireless, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching, Certified Meraki Networking Associate (CMNA) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) Certification.

How you'll learn

With this intensive hands-on program, discover the latest developments in wireless information networking and develop the specialized skills to contribute to the design, planning, implementation, operation and troubleshooting of wireless networks in various sectors.

Learn how to apply standardized approaches and methodologies to test, measure, troubleshoot and resolve technical wired and wireless network problems.
Explore designing and developing wired and wireless computer networks that satisfy stakeholder requirements using system design documentation.
Practise evaluating network performance against service levels using a variety of basic and advanced network management tools in order to develop action plans that conform to service level agreements.
Acquire skills for installing and upgrading network hardware and related components and software to comply with best practices in the wireless industry.
Develop strategies for evaluating wireless network topologies, connectivity and characteristics to assess impact on security and internet communications.
Gain experience collaborating with diverse teams to collect, analyze and interpret user requirements when preparing project documentation and reports.
A co-op work term or experiential learning opportunity of an academic program of study provides students with relevant and applied industry experience.

Co-op work terms are valuable work-integrated learning experiences that allow students to demonstrate their skills in real-world environments with industry support. The market for co-op employment is competitive, and students are expected to participate actively in their job searches. Students, with support, will be expected to identify and secure a co-op work term experience. Co-op work terms are subject to student eligibility, availability, and program review. If unable to secure or participate in a co-op work term, students will complete an alternative experiential learning opportunity.

COMM1076 Business Communications in Canada

This course prepares students to use appropriate business communication techniques such as report writing, presentation skills, and how to build client relationships within a Canadian business environment.

WINP1008 Implementing Operating Systems

Gain the knowledge and skills required to install and configure desktops and devices in a corporate environment. Skills acquired will include learning how to install and customize operating systems and apps and configuring local and remote network connectivity and storage. Also learn how to configure data security, device security, and network security.

WINP1009 Introduction to Network Security

Learn security concepts, tools and procedures. This course also provides the skills to react to security incidents, anticipate security risks, and guard against them.

WINP1006 Introduction to Networks

Gain the knowledge and skills required to troubleshoot, configure and manage common network wireless and wired devices, establish basic network design and connectivity, understand and maintain network documentation, identify network limitations and weaknesses, and implement network security, standards and protocols.

WINP1010 Introduction to Virtualization with VMware

This course provides hands-on experience with real-work scenarios and expert review questions that prepare students for the VMware Certified Associate – Data Center Virtualization exam. Students will be certified and have the skills to perform the duties of VCA.

WINP1007 Introduction to Wireless Communication

Learn about radio frequency (RF) and 802.11 technology essentials along with installing, configuring, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting tasks needed to support small and medium business and enterprise wireless networks.

WINP1000 Wireless Information Technology Principles and Best Practices in Canada

This course will discuss a wide range of wireless communication and network technologies, and will help students understand the role of wireless technologies in applications touching on various aspects of Canadian life such as health care, agriculture, smart cities, forecasting and the manufacturing industry.

WKPL1040 Co-op & Career Search Prep 1

This course will prepare students to attain a co-op that will bridge their transition from post-secondary education into Canadian industry experience. Effective cover letters and resumés, positive use of social media such as LinkedIn and polishing interview skills for Canadian markets will be the focus.

WINP1003 Fundamentals of Routing and Switching

A composite course associated with the CCNA Routing and Switching certification. Students will be prepared for this exam through learning the skills required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium-sized enterprise branch network.

WINP1001 Mobile Communication

Learn about what mobile communication encompasses, its evolution and history, including radio telephone capabilities while operating at any speed, such as two-way radio, public land radio, mobile telephone, and amateur ham radio.

WINP1005 RF Spectrum and Propagation Theory

Learn the characteristics of radio waves and their behaviour as as they travel from one point to another, including reflection, refraction, diffraction, absorption, polarization and scattering of radio waves, line of sight propagation, and surface waves propagation.

WINP1002 RF and Network Systems and Components

Study the radio frequency, network systems and components used in wireless network systems. This course also covers the active and passive components and RF signal propagation and channel selection in wireless communications.

WINP1004 Wireless Network Security

Study how to prevent unauthorized access or damage to data integrity and computers. Students will learn about the modes of unauthorized access, security measures, and implementing network encryption.

WINP2001 Advanced Virtualization with VMware

Learn about the installation, configuration, and management of VMware vSphere, which consists of VMware ESXi and VMware vCenter servers.

WINP2000 Cloud Management

Configure and manage cloud computing, and address the associated security risk and cyber threat mitigation.

WKPL2083 Co-op & Career Search Prep 2

WINP2004 LTE and 5th Generation Networks

Learn about 4G networking and long-term evolution (LTE) wireless broadband communication based on GTSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies, and 5G.

WINP2003 Wireless Communication and Mobile Security

Mobile devices have multiple communication capabilities which in turn can be exploited and need to be secured, such as Wi-Fi access, Bluetooth, USB host connection, internet enabled, and enabled services.

WINP2002 Wireless and Network Analysis Tools

Learn about the tools available to analyze wireless signals and wireless networks. Use signal generators and function generators to generate test signals, spectrum analyzers to analyze RF signals, and power meters to gauge signal strengths.

WINP2005 Wireless Networking Co-Op

Students will apply their skills in wireless information networking in a Canadian working environment. Prerequisite: COMM 1076, WINP 1000, WINP 1006, WINP 1007, WINP 1008, WINP 1009, WINP 1010, WINP 1001, WINP 1002, WINP 1003, WINP 1004, WINP 1005, WINP 2000, WINP 2001, WINP 2002, WINP 2003, WINP 2004, WKPL 1040, WKPL 2083

Admission requirements

Required academic preparation

A diploma or degree in Information Technology from a recognized college or university or equivalent.

All teaching within Loyalist is conducted in English. In order to be successful in a program, skills such as communication, listening comprehension, and reading and writing must be at a level sufficient to meet the demands of post-secondary studies. All applicants to Loyalist whose first language is not English, or whose previous education was in another language, will be expected to provide an English proficiency assessment for admissions approval. Note: This is a non-funded program and is therefore not OSAP eligible.

Approximate costs per year (2024 – 25)

The following fees do not include living costs, textbooks or additional program-specific expenses/supplies.

Full-Time Ancillary Fees:* $1,367

Co-op work term fee

The fees listed above do not include the co-op work term fee ($900). Students are expected to participate actively in securing a co-op work term. If ineligible or unable to secure a co-op work term, students are required to complete an alternative experiential learning opportunity in their final semester and will be assessed a different fee ($2,800). These fees are not added to fourth semester tuition fees; rather, they replace regular semester tuition fees.
