Belleville, Ontario, March 11, 2021 – Today, Loyalist College recognized 59 students during its virtual Spring Awards Ceremony. Made possible by 30 donors, including 18 endowed funds, a total of $34,220 was awarded, bringing the total value of awards presented this academic year through the Awards Office to more than $451,000.

“Congratulations to all of our award recipients,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO.  “I commend you on your hard work and dedication to your studies. Today, you are one step closer to achieving your personal and career goals. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our donors for their continued generosity, and the Directors of The Loyalist College Foundation for their advocacy on behalf of Loyalist College and its students. Your support empowers our community of learners to dream bigger, to pursue innovation and excellence in their chosen industries and to make positive contributions to their communities.”

During the ceremony, this special appreciation video, featuring personal messages of thanks from award recipients, was played for guests.

“These awards are a testament to the commitment of our community, including members of The Loyalist College Foundation and the College’s Board of Governors, to support Loyalist College students as they gain new skills and prepare for their futures,” said Pam Jolliffe, Chair of the Loyalist College Board of Governors. “Loyalist College students graduate ready to contribute to the social and economic health of our region and we are proud to act as their advocates as they complete their postsecondary education. Congratulations, students, and thank you to donors for your support.”

Many of the awards were provided by donors through The Loyalist College Foundation, which was established in 1995 to provide leadership in meeting the goals for long-term development and fundraising to benefit Loyalist College students and programs. Other funds were donated by individuals, businesses and community organizations.

“We know that financial support removes barriers to education and has a positive impact on the lives of Loyalist College students as they pursue their goals,” said Susan Scarborough, Chair of The Loyalist College Foundation. “On behalf of The Loyalist College Foundation, warmest congratulations to all award recipients.”

The Indigenous Postsecondary Bursary was presented to 38 students over the course of the 2020-2021 academic year. This bursary is provided by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities for students who are of Indigenous ancestry, studying at the College. The total value presented was $25,400.

Additional awards are presented annually during Convocation in June and at the College’s Undergraduate Awards Ceremony in the Fall. For more information about Loyalist College awards, bursaries and scholarships, please visit loyalistcollege.com.
