Peer Tutoring Terms and Conditions

The following are the terms and conditions of the student agreement for obtaining a peer tutor. Please read carefully as you will be considered to have accepted these terms by receiving Tutoring Services.

  • I give permission for the release of my name and Loyalist College Outlook email address to any tutor assigned to me.
  • I agree to use my Loyalist College Outlook email account as my primary contact for all necessary communications with the tutor assigned to me and with Tutoring Services personnel. If my tutor and I choose to communicate by text message, I understand that no one can be held accountable if one of the parties does not show for a scheduled tutoring session.
  • I understand that to be eligible for tutoring assistance, I must attend all classes, do my homework, and keep up with all in-class assignments to the best of my ability.
  • I will be on time and prepared for my scheduled tutoring sessions. I will bring all necessary notes, textbooks, assignments, problems or concerns to all tutoring sessions.
  • I will notify my tutor and the Coordinator, Tutoring Services via Loyalist College Outlook email at least two hours in advance of any appointment I must cancel. I am aware that if I miss two appointments without prior and appropriate notification, it will result in the loss of one-on-one tutoring assistance for the balance of the semester.
  • I will be allowed to use free tutoring services to a MAXIMUM of 10 hours per month. If I require more than 10 hours of tutoring per month, it is my responsibility to speak with the Coordinator of Tutoring Services.
  • I will not text or call my tutor unless it is directly related to a tutoring session. Repeated calling and texting will be grounds for a discontinuation of tutoring services for the duration of the semester.
  • Tutoring Sessions may take place in-person on campus or via virtual platform. Tutors will decide on the format.
  • I will not expect my tutor to do my work for me, nor will I expect them to provide me with information about tests or exams that they have written. This would be considered Academic Dishonesty and is considered a serious offence under the Student Manual.
  • I agree to keep the Coordinator of Tutoring Services informed of my progress and/or any problems that may arise during my tutoring sessions.
  • I understand that every effort will be made to match me with a qualified tutor; however, there is no guarantee that a tutor will be available for every course.
  • As a student requesting academic tutoring, I am expected to comply with these expectations. Failure to do so may result in termination of tutoring services.
