Start this January @LoyalistCollege

November 28, 2013

Why wait until September when you can start the New Year training for a rewarding career? January start programs at Loyalist College are an excellent opportunity to retrain, build on current credentials or move from high school to post-secondary studies. Choose from 15 programs, including diploma and certificate options in media, arts and design, health, human and justice studies and business and management studies. In addition, there is also a post-graduate Human Resources Management program starting in January.

Brittany Kristensen, who works as an educational assistant with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, graduated from the Loyalist Developmental Services Worker (DSW) program in 2013.  “When I finished my degree, I knew I wanted to take the DSW program at Loyalist – but I wanted to do some volunteer work first. The January start worked perfectly with this plan. I loved the small class sizes. We knew our instructors and each other – and they knew us. The classroom interaction surpassed anything I experienced in university.”

Starting in January was also ideal for Esthetics and Spa Management student Ally DiMaria. “I trained through until the end of July, and then began my second year in September,” she said. “My calendar year at the College is condensed, which was important to me. I’d like to be out and working as soon as possible.”

Melissa Rossi enrolled in the Esthetics and Spa Management program after realizing that the program she had started in September was not right for her. “I was thrilled when I learned that I could make a change in January and not have to wait a full year to get back on track,” she said. “This program encompasses so many aspects of the spa business, which I love. We’re learning to operate the campus spa, while gaining confidence and experience serving clients in this beautiful facility.”

In February, Loyalist is launching the new College Technology and Trade Preparation one-year certificate program. For anyone interested in a career in the skilled trades but not sure where to start, this is a great introduction to a range of skilled trades while earning credits toward diploma studies. Students will gain hands-on experience through courses in Electrical Engineering, Welding, Motive Power, Construction Renovation, and Manufacturing/Mechanical Techniques. The trades are introduced over two semesters, allowing you time to develop solid skills and evaluate your educational and career options.

Loyalist College January and February start programs get you moving right away – making it possible for you to build on your accreditations and experience, or go in an exciting new direction.
