Secondary School Students to get a Taste of Science and Skills Programs at Loyalist College

February 12, 2015

On February 19, Loyalist College will host 120 secondary school students as they experience a “Taste of College: Science and Skills”. This unique hands-on enrichment opportunity, hosted by the School-College-Work Initiative, is designed to give students an introduction to post-secondary opportunities and College life.

During this one-day event, grades 9-12 students from Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) and Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) will participate in two interactive sessions taught by Loyalist faculty. While learning about College programs available to them after high school, and exploring the College’s facilities, students will also participate in program-focused hands-on activities to further pique their interest in various career paths. Students can try their hand at building a roof truss using industry tools with the Construction Renovation program, give and receive a nail treatment in the Loyalist Spa, practise dressing a leg wound on the Human Simulation Lab’s interactive mannequins, write their name in molten metal in the Welding shop, or choose from a selection of other Science and Skills focused sessions.
