LOYALIST COLLEGE PRACTICAL NURSING GRADUATES ACHIEVE 100% SUCCESS

November 13, 2015

Belleville, Ontario, November 12, 2015 — Loyalist College Practical Nursing graduates who recently wrote the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) were 100 percent successful.

“Loyalist grads have historically scored above the provincial and national averages in all categories of the CPNRE,” said Dean of Health, Human and Justice Studies Karen Brooks-Cathcart. “To prepare our students to succeed, we offer personalized instruction through small clinical and lab groups, followed by an intensive eight-week clinical placement where they apply the skills they’ve learned.”

The registration exam is offered in September and must be taken in order for a nurse to practise in Ontario. All 39 Loyalist candidates scored at or above the provincial and national averages in each category assessed.

“Congratulations to the Practical Nursing program faculty and all staff who work diligently to facilitate excellence in nursing education,” said Loyalist College President & CEO Maureen Piercy. “Their dedication and commitment contribute to Loyalist’s leadership in health and human studies.”

Over the course of their two-year Ontario College Diploma program, students are routinely tested. They take a four-hour comprehensive mock-exam, consisting of 200 multiple choice questions, which mimics the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam.

“We appreciate the hard work the students have done,” said Barb Remington, Coordinator of Loyalist’s Practical Nursing program. “Knowing that every single one of them passed this rigorous exam – it makes us very proud.”
