Loyalist College Hosts 16th Annual Career Fair

February 07, 2013

On February 7, 2013, Loyalist College hosted the 16th Annual Career Fair. Approximately 80 exhibitors, including regional and national employers and post-secondary institutions, attended and met with students and graduates to fulfill staffing needs, ranging from full-time to part-time, as well as summer and temporary positions.

“I graduated from Loyalist in 2006, and now work for Cruickshank as a CAD and GPS Technician and Project Estimator,” said Justin Van Hecky, a Loyalist Construction Engineering graduate who was recruiting at the Career Fair. “We’re looking to hire ten Loyalist interns this year. It’s a great way for students to get their foot in the door. The Construction Engineering program prepared me for the jobs I’ve had in this field. I did a lot of research and Loyalist was the best school.”

The annual Career Fair is one of a number of Loyalist Career Centre initiatives that support students and alumni in their career exploration, planning, and development. The Centre offers everything from computers and Internet access for conducting job searches to assistance with résumé and cover letter creation. Career Advisors work one-on-one with students and graduates to help them prepare for a career.

“The grads we’re looking for could come from a wide range of disciplines,” said Monty Chrysler from International Truckload Services Inc. “We’ve recently hired a Loyalist grad from the Business program who is working in dispatching and he will grow from there. The trucking industry has advanced quickly. Our trucks are now tracked with satellite communications, and we need people to manage these technology systems.”
