Dinner and Auction to Celebrate Loyalist’s 40th Anniversary

Gourmet Marché will Raise Money for Foundation

On March 27, 2008, Loyalist College will host a dinner and live auction in the cafeteria to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the College.  Net proceeds will benefit the student endowment fund for financial assistance, administered by The Loyalist College Foundation.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a viewing of selected paintings from the Manly MacDonald collection in The Parrott Centre, and paintings from “The Loyalist Collection”, by R. Gary Miller. The Loyalist Collection was commissioned during the 20th Anniversary of the College and recalls the history of the Quinte area.  There will also be tours of the College’s new Career Centre.

Guests will then dine, marché style, catered by Club 213, prepared by the students in the Chef Training/Culinary Management program, and served by Hospitality Management students. The evening will also include a live auction with auctioneer Wendell White.

“We are looking forward to this event as a key part of the recognition of the 40th Anniversary of the College, and its place in our community,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy. “We extend a warm invitation to our partners in education and throughout the region to join us for this evening of celebration and fellowship.”

Tickets will cost $75, and a charitable tax receipt will be provided for a portion of this amount.  The Loyalist College Foundation was established in 1995 to provide support for students and programs. To date, investment income from the Foundation endowment has provided 1,935 awards totalling $1,073,440.

When Loyalist College opened its doors in September 1967, 172 students were registered in classes offered in Centennial Secondary School.  In 1968, the Pioneer Building was opened on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. Construction of the Kente Building began in August 1969. In 2008, full-time enrolment stands at 2,800 students, and Continuing Education registrations number 13,600 annually.
