What is a Military-Connected Campus?

As a Military-Connected Campus, Loyalist College will provide specialized academic and social programming to support military-connected students’ success, including community networking opportunities, recognition for co-curricular training, and leadership development.

Who is considered a military-connected individual?

Military-connected individuals have a tangible connection with the Canadian Armed Forces or the military of their home nation. Military-connected students may identify as:

  • Current serving members of the Regular Force
  • Current serving members of the Reserve Component
  • Veterans
  • Department of National Defence – Civil Servant
  • Immediate Family of CAF member or Veteran
  • Foreign Military Veteran

What MCC activities will take place at Loyalist College?

The military-connected campus project will unfold over three separate phases where different activities will occur. Activities include:

  1. Supporting the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition process
  2. Building a student club
  3. Identifying academic opportunities
  4. Hosting awareness and orientation workshops for students, faculty, and staff
  5. Building external partnerships
  6. Identifying military-affiliated career and student service advisors
  7. Understanding and maintaining a meaningful connection with military-connected students

What is Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)?

Military-connected students may be eligible for credit for prior learning and experience. Check out Loyalist’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition page for details and be prepared to submit your Member’s Personnel Records Resume (MPRR), course reports, letters of attestation, or other forms of verification. The MPRR is the preferred method of Canadian Armed Forces training, education, and experiential confirmation.

What are some programs of interest for Military-Connected students?

Loyalist College has 87 military-connected students enrolled in programming. While there is a concentration of military-connected learners in Practical Nursing, Police Foundations and Business – Accounting, students are enrolled in 30 different programs.
