The College Employer Council (CEC) and OPSEU have reached an agreement to enter binding arbitration for the resolution of outstanding bargaining issues. This ensures that classes will continue as scheduled, and no strike action will occur.

Update: Jan. 6, 2025
Since July 2024, the College Employer Council (CEC), representing Ontario’s 24 publicly funded colleges, has been negotiating a renewal of the OPSEU collective agreement with the OPSEU CAAT-A bargaining team, who represents full-time and partial-load professors, instructors, librarians, and counsellors.
On Jan. 3, 2025, OPSEU delivered the 5 days’ notice of potential strike action commencing Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025. The job action could include work-to-rule, rotating strikes, or a full withdrawal of work (a strike). CEC and OPSEU are still scheduled for two days of mediation this week on Jan. 6 – 7.
What does this mean for you?
- All classes will continue as scheduled through Jan. 8, 2025.
- If OPSEU begins labour action on Thursday, Jan. 9, classes may still continue depending on the form of the strike. We will share updates as soon as more information is available.
- Loyalist College remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached without a strike. The CEC has asked OPSEU to join them in binding arbitration, which would avoid any labour action.
