AODA Training Modules for Employees

Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and the Ontario Human Rights Code – AODA

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), every obligated organization shall ensure that training is provided on the requirements of the accessibility standards referred to in this regulation and on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to persons with disabilities.

The following outlines the main topics of this training:

  • the Ontario Human Rights code
  • the General requirements of the IASR
  • the Information and Communications Standard
  • the Employment Standard, and
  • the Transportation Standard

The module can be accessed through the employee staff portal at myloyalist.com. If you do not have a Loyalist College E-mail you may complete the training through the handbook included below. You must ensure to complete the Acknowledgement Form and submit to Human Resources Services, room 3H20 or email the signed form to apardell@loyalistcollege.com.

Accessibility Awareness Training for Educators – UDL – AODA

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), every educator in the province must complete a module on accessible instruction. The goal of this training is to provide Loyalist employees who are responsible for the design, delivery and/or instruction of courses with strategies to enhance accessible teaching methods as a way to enrich the learning experience for students with disabilities.

The following outlines the main topics of this training:

  • AODA and the IASR and their impact on program and course design, delivery and instruction
  • Barriers some students may face in accessing learning
  • Sample strategies for improving accessibility
  • Principles of Universal Design for Learning as one framework for accessible education that removes barriers
  • Resources for accessible education

Customer Service Standard

To ensure that the College complies with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), everyone who interacts on its behalf with the public must be trained in accessible customer service. This training requirement applies to all faculty, staff, managers, and senior administrators.

The following outlines the main topics of this training:

  • Introduction to the AODA and its purpose
  • Requirements that colleges must meet under the customer service standard
  • Introduction to the principles of accessibility
  • Illustrated best practices for communicating and interacting with persons with disabilities, including those persons accompanied by service animals or support persons
