Loyalist College Introduces New College Technology And Trade Preparation Program

Belleville, Ontario, January 9, 2014 – Loyalist College is pleased to introduce the new College Technology and Trade Preparation one-year Ontario College Certificate program beginning February 1. 

Students will explore a wide range of skilled trades, earning credits that can be applied toward a future program of their choice, such as Electrical Techniques – Automation, Construction Renovation, Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Motive Power Fundamentals, Mechanical Techniques and Welding Techniques, among others. Offered in Loyalist’s state-of-the-art Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre, students will gain valuable hands-on experience using the latest equipment and technology. 

“The College Technology and Trade Preparation program is designed to prepare students to be successful at College by sampling different program options,” said Ann Drennan, Dean of Applied Sciences, Skills and Technology. “Critical thinking is a key skill we teach to help students to be adaptable and effective in changing workplace environments.”

About the program:

  • Students learn in small classes from dedicated faculty who are industry leaders in their fields
  • Trades are introduced over two semesters, allowing students time to develop solid skills and evaluate opportunities
  • Mathematics and Communications are taught in both semesters 

Career Opportunities:

  • With further study, graduates can prepare for a wide array of careers in electrical and industrial automation; residential and commercial construction and renovation; manufacturing and maintenance planning, welding and inspection, or automotive service and repair
